IPL 2022: Frustrated Sanju Samson calls for a DRS protesting the umpire’s wide call

Drama, drama, and more drama!!! The 15th edition of the IPL has been garnering headlines for poor umpiring decisions. To be fair, the umpiring standards have been pretty low in the IPL 2022. Another incident took the limelight in the tournament as Sanju Samson protested against the umpire’s decision of calling a delivery wide by signalling DRS.

On Monday, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders locked horns in the 47th match of the IPL 2022. Kolkata Knight Riders managed to trump the Royals by seven wickets in a closely fought battle. However, the umpiring decisions were once again under the scanner and Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Sanju Samson lost his patience over dubious wide calls.

Sanju Samson loses his cool over a wide call

The incident happened in the 19th over as Prasidh Krishna was bowling the over while Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh were batting for the Kolkata-based franchise. With 11 runs required off nine deliveries, Krishna delivered the fourth delivery of the 19th over.

It was a short and wide delivery, Rinku Singh missed the cut as the ball climbed over his bat. However, the umpire called it wide in a shocking decision. Sanju Samson was furious with the call as he signalled for a DRS to review the wide call.

The decision proved to be game-changing as it brought down the required equation to 10 runs off 9 deliveries instead of 11 runs of 8 deliveries.

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals posted a below-par total of 152/5 in 20 overs after batting first. Sanju Samson top-scored for his side with 54 runs off 49 deliveries. However, Kolkata Knight Riders hunted down the total to arrest their losing streak.

Rajasthan Royals are now sitting at 3rd position in the points table with six wins and four losses after 10 matches. They now have lost two back-to-back games and will look to get back to the winning ways against Punjab Kings in their next fixture.
