5 players MI could retain ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction

Mumbai Indians are one of the powerful teams in the history of the Indian Premier League. The Mumbai-based franchise under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma have won as many as five titles so far in the competition. However, the MI cricket fraternity witnessed a sudden change in IPL 2024 season.

Rohit Sharma was stripped of captaincy ahead of the season. The MI team management decided to name Hardik Pandya as the new captain. The all-rounder, though took over the reins from Rohit Sharma failed to guide the team to the playoffs.

Under his captaincy, Mumbai Indians finished at the bottom of the points table. Overall, they have won four games and lost as many as 10 games in the group stage. It will be quite interesting to see how Mumbai Indians respond in the upcoming season. Let’s take a look at the five players which the five-time IPL champions could retain ahead of the mega auction.

1. Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya was the captain of the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 and 2023 seasons. Under his captaincy, GT won the title in their debut season before finishing as the runners-up in the 2023 season. Ahead of the IPL 2024 season, he was traded traded to the Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans.

However, his MI captaincy debut turned out to be an utter nightmare as the franchise hit the rock-bottom of the points table. Despite a bad season, the MI will still retain him, considering that he is a game-changer in both batting and bowling.

Hardik Pandya scored 2525 runs in 137 appearances in the Indian Premier League. Overall, he has smashed 10 half centuries to his name and maintained a strike rate of 145.6. On the other side of the coin, he has taken as many as 64 wickets.
