5 players GT could retain ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction

The Gujarat Titans (GT) made their debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022. The Ahmedabad-based franchise showed an ambitious and winning attitude right from their starting season. The team, led by Hardik Pandya, quickly became a force to be reckoned with in the competition as they gave the opposition teams a run for their money.

With new players and a fresh team management, it was not clear how they would perform against IPL giants like Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Nevertheless, GT wasted no time in proving their critics wrong as they built a balanced squad with experienced stars and young talents.

It is also worth mentioning here that GT also had Ashish Nehra as their head coach. The former Indian pacer’s expertise and tactical knowledge played a key role in guiding the team through tough phase. GT won the title in their debut season by beating Rajasthan Royals in the final.

In the subsequent season, they finished as the runners-up as they lost to Chennai Super Kings in the final. However, in IPL 2024, Hardik Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians in a historic deal. Shubman Gill took over from Hardik Pandya as a captain. They failed to qualify for the playoffs as they finished eighth on the table. GT will make sure that they retain core part of the players such that they can bid for the title in the next season.

1. Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has been one of the most promising young talents in Indian cricket. His performances for Gujarat Titans has been nothing short of spectacular. Ever since joining the franchise, he has been a dependable top-order batter. Be it chasing targets or setting up big totals, he has often played the role of an anchor, letting others to play freely.

At the same time, he has even switched gears according to the match situation. Under his captaincy, GT failed to qualify for the playoffs last time. It must have been a learning experience for him and he will look to do better in the next season. Having been a part of the IPL since 2018, he scored 3,216 runs at an average of 37.8, laced with 4 centuries and 20 fifties.
