3 batters who can open for Team India in case Rohit Sharma is ruled out of rescheduled Test against England
As per the latest developments, the Indian team is dealt with a massive blow as the skipper Rohit Sharma tests positive for COVID-19 ahead of their rescheduled fifth Test against England. The final game of the series is scheduled to begin on the 1st of July and now the Indian opener is in a race against the time to recover completely.
It won’t be easy for Team India to cope-up with Rohit’s unavailability as they are already without the services of their other star opener KL Rahul. While Shubman Gill was likely to open alongside his skipper, the team management will have to find another suitable opener to partner with Gill at the top if Rohit Sharma fails to recover in time.
3 players who can open in place of Rohit Sharma if he rules out of the scheduled Test against England:
1. Hanuma Vihari
The man for the crisis situations – Hanuma Vihari could be asked to open for India if Rohit Sharma fails to recover from COVID-19 in time. The 28-year-old batter is a compact player and he could hold one end against the fiery English pace attack while Shubman Gill could apply the attacking approach.
Hanuma Vihari has already opened for India once during the 2020 Australia tour. The right-handed batter has the technique and ability to face the new cherry in the swinging conditions. In such a case, Shreyas Iyer could be slotted at number five in the Indian batting unit.
