Yuzvendra Chahal’s parents test positive for coronavirus; father hospitalized with severe symptoms

Yuzvendra Chahal has been an important part of the Indian cricket team set-up ever since Virat Kohli took over the captaincy role from Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Chahal and his partner Kuldeep Yadav formed a formidable pair and dismantled the opposition batting line-up with ease.

The pair earned a special name “Kulcha”. However, their combination was last seen in India’s defeat to Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final. Since then, Kuldeep Yadav has been in and out of the Indian cricket team. On the other hand, Chahal has been Kohli’s main spin weapon.

Currently, Chahal is plying his trade for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League 2021 before the cash-rich IPL was suspended on May 4. Needless to say, the wrist-spinner didn’t have the best of time in this season where he took only 4 wickets in 7 games.

As the tournament came to an abrupt end, Chahal was accompanied by his wife Dhanashree in the bio-bubble as the Indian cricket body, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) permitted players to travel with their families. Meanwhile, the wrist-spinner Chahal has not been listed in the 20-man squad for England tour, including the World Test Championship final.

The novel coronavirus pandemic has been spreading at a faster rate in India. Meanwhile, Chahal’s parents have contracted the virus infection. Chahal’s wife and choreographer Dhanashree Verma confirmed the news on her official Instagram account.

Yuzvendra’s father, identified as KK Chahal, an advocate, has been hospitalized with ‘severe symptoms’. Meanwhile, the cricketer’s mother Sunita Devi is being treated at home. Dhanashree warned people to stay safe.

“April-May. It’s been really tough and emotionally challenging for me. At first, my mother and brother tested positive. I was in the IPL bubble and felt extremely helpless but did monitor them from time to time. It’s really difficult to stay away from your family. Fortunately, they have recovered,” Dhanashree said in her Instagram story.

“But I lost my aunt and very close uncle due to Covid and its complications. And now my parents in law have tested positive with severe symptoms. My father-in-law is admitted and my mother-in-law is being treated at home. I was at the hospital and I have witnessed the worst. I am taking all the precautions but… Guys please stay at home and take proper care of your family,” she added.
