In the previous two months, the cricketing world has witnessed an interesting battle between Pakistan opening duo, Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam, and Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav for the numero uno position in the T20I rankings. However, since the last month, Rizwan and Surya are playing musical chairs among themselves for the top position in the T20I rankings.

Both Rizwan and Surya are in the form of their lives. The Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter smashed the English bowlers in the recently-concluded home series against England. He has now continued his purple patch in the tri-series in New Zealand. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav first smashed the Aussies at home followed by the Proteas. In the process, Suryakumar Yadav became the number-one batter in the T20I rankings but Mohammad Rizwan soon dethroned him with a couple of solid performances.

Now, Rizwan opened up about his ongoing battle with Surya in the rankings. He addressed the press conference after playing a match-winning knock against Bangladesh in the opening game of the tri-series.

Mohammad Rizwan heaps praise on Suryakumar Yadav; quashed the comparisons between himself and SKY

The Pakistan opener praised Suryakumar Yadav for his batting style and the ability he has but also insisted that critics should not compare himself and the Indian batter because of their different batting positions and different playing style.

“Good player hain Suryakumar Yadav. Jis tarah se woh khelte hain, mujhe bohot pasand he. Magar jaha tak cheezen he and different tarike se dekha jae kyunki middle order and top order mukhtalif cheezen hain. Kabhi No.1 ke liye socha nahi hain jo demand he Pakistan ki woh pura karne ki koshish kar raha hu. No.1 or Man of the Match, aise kuch cheeze hain jo negative main le jati hain. Par main sochta nehi hu,” said Mohammad Rizwan.

“Ha kabhi pitches aisa milta hain ki 60 balls pe 40 karna padta he but wohi Pakistan ka demand tha. Pichle saal Bangladesh series main bhi wohi tha, UAE me chale jae toh 145 banana mushkil he,” Rizwan added.
