The first Test match between India and England turned out to be a one-sided contest at Chepauk stadium in Chennai. While India struggled to pick up the pace, England easily took control over the game on most occasions. The visitors purely dominated the gameplay in the first innings by adding a massive total.

England managed to accumulate a whopping total of 578 in the first innings. Joe Root was the star of the batting attack as he scored 218 with the help of 19 fours and 2 sixes. Dominic Sibley scored 87 while Ben Stokes scored 82 to his name. While India tried to get back into the game with the help of Ravichandran Ashwin’s 6-wicket haul, it was already too late.

The visitors might have bowled out for a mediocre total of 178 in the second innings. However, they were well and truly on top of the game with a lead of 419 runs and Team India were tasked to chase down 420. In reply, Jack Leach break the opening partnership as the spinner dismissed Rohit Sharma early on in the game as he departed after scoring just 12 runs.

James Anderson chipped in with magical bowling performance on Day 5. The veteran pacer got rid of Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane. The pacer’s game-changing spell completely changed the entire complexion of the game. England won the game by 227 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the four-match Test series.

During India’s run-chase, Shubman Gill was the only opener who provided a great start to the game. The young batsman scored a half-century. However, Anderson dismissed him by making a mess of his stumps. Since then, England bowlers took wickets at frequent intervals. However, Indian captain Virat Kohli kept on smashing boundaries at will.

While Kohli was batting on 72, Joe Root brought Ben Stokes into the bowling attack. The all-rounder kept it low as much as possible as Kohli got clean bowled by the all-rounder. After taking his wicket, Stokes came up with an animated celebration and the video has gone viral on social media sites.
