Former India captain Virat Kohli is currently playing his 100th Test match as Rohit Sharma & Co play Sri Lanka in the 1st Test at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on March 4 (Friday).
The buzz around the Test match is on an all-time high after the BCCI allowed 50% crowd to come into the stadium and witness Kohli’s milestone Test. He became the 12th Indian to reach 100 Tests. The Indian players who have played 100 Tests include Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid to name a few.
Meanwhile, the 33-year-old talismanic run-scorer will be eyeing a special record in his 100th Test match. If he manages to achieve the feat, Virat Kohli will become the first Indian cricketer to achieve the special feat in the red-ball format. He will also join the elite list of batsmen who have done so in the past and will be 10th batsmen overall.
The Delhi-based cricketer has scored 7962 runs in 99 Tests with an average of 50.39, including 27 centuries.
Rahul Dravid presents Virat Kohli with a special cap on his 100th Test
Team India head coach Rahul Dravid presented the talismanic run-scorer with a special cap on the occasion of the 100th Test. He was handed over the cap in the presence of his wife Anushka Sharma, teammates while his family and childhood coach watched from the stands.
Virat Kohli admitted that receiving the cap from his childhood hero Dravid makes the occasion even more special. Speaking after receiving the present, Kohli said:
“Thanks Rahul bhai, it is indeed a special moment for me. My wife is here, my brother is here in the stadium. All my family members, my coach from childhood, all are very proud. To all my teammates, thank you so much for your support over the years.”
“It is indeed a team game and this journey couldn’t have been possible without all of you. To the BCCI to give me the opportunity to represent Indian cricket and from thereon, everything has gone from strength to strength”, he added.
What a moment to commemorate his 100th Test appearance in whites 🙌🏻
