‘There was an issue with the size’ – BCCI explains why Suryakumar Yadav donned Sanju Samson’s jersey
Suryakumar Yadav failed to make an impact with the bat.
The Men in Blue led by Rohit Sharma churned out a victory over the West Indies and drew the first blood in the ongoing ODI series. Batting first, the hosts were in a spot of bother after losing wickets at regular intervals. Shai Hope put up some fight against the Indians by scoring 43 runs. Unfortunately, his teammates failed to rise up to the occasion as most of them fell prey to the spinners.
Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers as he took 4 wickets whereas Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets. West Indies were bundled out for a mere 114 in 23 overs. In response, Team India were sloppy in the run-chase but somehow managed to get the job done in 22.5 overs.
Ishan Kishan was the pick of the batters as he top-scored with 52 off 46 balls. He hit 7 fours and a six during his stay at the crease. In the end, Team India won the game by five wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Kuldeep was named the Player of the Match for his 4/6.
Suryakumar Yadav wears Sanju Samson’s jersey in the ODI opener
During the first ODI, Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav was seen donning Sanju Samson’s jersey. Sanju Samson was not part of the playing XI. Meanwhile, the pictures of Suryakumar Yadav sporting Sanju Samson’s jersey went viral on the internet. Suryakumar Yadav’s name started trending on Twitter and fans were figuring out why the Mumbai-born cricketer was donning Samson’s jersey in the first place.
Later on, the BCCI source revealed that Suryakumar Yadav had issues with T-shirt size. Suryakumar Yadav got the “medium-sized” T-shirt but was not too comfortable with it as well. Needless to say, he was involved in a photoshoot session with that medium-sized jersey before wearing Sanju Samson’s shirt for the ODI series opener.
It seems that Suryakumar’s jersey will arrive in the wake of the second ODI. “There was an issue with the size, but the correct jersey will arrive only after the 2nd ODI along with the players selected for the T20I series,” the BCCI source added.
