SL vs IND 2024: 3 strange omissions from India’s T20I squad for Sri Lanka tour
2. Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s absence from the T20I squad against Sri Lanka has raised eyebrows. It is no secret that Gaikwad has consistently been one of the most reliable batters in T20Is. More importantly, he had a solid outing in Zimbabwe, scoring 133 runs in four games at an average of 66.50 and a strike rate of 174.65.
The right-hander scored 633 runs in 23 T20Is, laced with 1 century and 4 fifties. The cricket community thought that Gaikwad was poised to cement his place in the T20I squad, especially with his knack for scoring runs in the truncated version but that wasn’t meant to the case.
3. Mukesh Kumar
Mukesh Kumar was terrific with the ball in Zimbabwe. Having played three games in the series, he delivered crucial breakthroughs and kept the opposition batters in check by maintaining tight lines. Rightly so, he finished the series as the joint-most leading wicket-taker with 8 wickets.
The right-arm fast bowler registered 4/22 in the fifth and final T20I at Harare Sports Club, Harare. Overall, he maintained a bowling average of 9.38. His exclusion from India’s T20I squad for Sri Lanka assignment is another decision that has baffled the cricket fraternity.
