The cricket community was taken aback when India’s vice-captain in limited-overs didn’t feature in the second T20I against Sri Lanka. The 24-year-old woke up with a neck spasm on the match day. Hence the Indian think-tank had to bring Sanju Samson in the mix in place of Gill.

However, Sanju Samson didn’t make use of the opportunity as he was dismissed for a golden duck. Maheesh Theekshana made a complete mess of Samson’s stumps in the recently-concluded game. Meanwhile, Gill is expected to be back in action to replace Sanju Samson in the dead rubber.

3. Khaleel Ahmed gets a chance in place of Mohammed Siraj

Khaleel Ahmed who made his T20I debut in 2018, didn’t get enough opportunities owing to the stiff competition in the Indian cricket team. The left-arm fast medium bowler picked up 16 wickets in 17 appearances so far. He might replace Mohammed Siraj in the third and final T20I.

Mohammed Siraj who featured in the first two T20Is was far from impressive. The right-arm fast bowler took 1 wicket in the T20I opener, giving away 23 runs in three overs at an economy of 7.70. In the second T20I, he went wicketless and conceded 27 runs in three overs at an economy of 9.
