SA vs IND 2023: Sunil Gavaskar believes Yashasvi Jaiswal has got potential to shine in Test series

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is of the notion that Yashasvi Jaiswal has all the tools and ingredients to put up a great fight in the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa. The first Test will kick off on December 26, Tuesday at SuperSport Park, Centurion.

The second and final Test will be held on January 3 at Newlands, Cape Town. Yashasvi Jaiswal who is part of the squad will be opening the innings alongside skipper Rohit Sharma in the Test series. The young lad made his Test debut against the West Indies wherein he announced his arrival in style.

Jaiswal scored a magnificent 171 in the first innings before following it up with a gritty 95 in the second. He justified his selection right by letting his performance do all the talking and rightfully cemented his place in the Test set-up.

Yashasvi Jaiswal can shine in these conditions: Sunil Gavaskar

While speaking to Star Sports, India’s batting great gave insights about Yashasvi Jaiswal who is going to face the ultimate challenge. “Yes, it’s going to be a test for him. But I do believe that he has got the capability to thrive in these conditions too,” added Gavaskar.

Also, the commentator believes that Jaiswal has the potential to come out on top in the conditions. On top of that, he highlighted Jaiswal’s ability to play the ball very late and that he adopts a risk-free approach, a template that has given him a head start on his Test career.

“What I have seen of him in Test matches is that he plays the ball very late, his head is very still, and he gets into the line quite nicely. He is not looking to rush at the ball. He plays it very late, he loves to give himself time in the middle,” India’s batting legend explained. India have never won a Test series in South Africa and it remains to be seen how the visitors will thrive in the conditions this time around.
