“His instinct is equal to MS Dhoni” – Sanjay Manjrekar praises KL Rahul for DRS brilliance

KL Rahul couldn’t be any happier upon guiding Team India to a 2-1 ODI series win over South Africa in unfamiliar climes. The Men in Blue took the first lead in the series by trouncing the hosts by 8 wickets before the hosts made a stellar comeback to win the second ODI by 8 wickets.

Just as when the series was evenly poised, both teams were aiming to clinch the final game and the series. Eventually, India had the last laugh in the battle as they won by 78 runs to clinch the series. KL Rahul drew plaudits for his captaincy in the just-concluded series.

Among the ones who showered praises on KL Rahul was Sanjay Manjrekar. The commentator is of the notion that KL Rahul is a specialist in terms of taking the DRS calls, which plays a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the game.

KL Rahul looks comfortable in leadership role: Sanjay Manjrekar

India’s interim captain KL Rahul not only led the team from the front but also delivered the goods with the bat, scoring a fifty in the series decider. Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar, while echoing his thoughts on ESPNcricinfo, added that KL Rahul is an expert in taking DRS calls.

He even likened KL Rahul’s instinct to MS Dhoni’s. “These days, when you see KL Rahul on the ground, he looks very relaxed and in a good mind space. He captained as expected. He looks comfortable in the leadership role. Rahul has led a lot in the IPL, in a Test match in South Africa and in ODIs as well. You can expect KL Rahul not to make any big mistakes. He is an expert in DRS. His instinct is equal to MS Dhoni,” he said.

Team India posted 296/8 in 50 overs with the help of Sanju Samson’s century and KL Rahul’s fifty. In response, South Africa were bowled out for 218. Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers for India as he registered 4/30. Sanju Samson was adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning century.Arshdeep was named the Player of the Series for taking 10 wickets.
