NZ vs IND 2022: 3 deserving players to miss out on India’s squad for New Zealand ODIs
These were the unexpected missing names from the squad.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian squads for their upcoming tour against New Zealand post the T20 World Cup 2022. Men in Blue will play three T20Is followed by three ODIs against the Kiwis. The national selection panel announced two separate squads for the bilateral T20I and ODI series on Tuesday.
Senior players including captain Rohit Sharma have been rested, while Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are still missing out on the action. Meanwhile, veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan has been named the Indian skipper for the ODI series.
The likes of Kuldeep Sen and Umran Malik received their maiden national ODI call-ups. But there have been players who should have been picked for the Indian ODI squad against the Kiwis. Hence, in this post, we will take a look at 3 deserving players to miss out on India’s squad for New Zealand ODIs.
1. Prithvi Shaw
The biggest surprise from India’s ODI squad for the New Zealand tour is the exclusion of Prithvi Shaw. The young dynamic opener has been neglected despite performing consistently in domestic cricket.
The right-handed batter has been piling up runs in all forms of domestic cricket, including first-class matches, the 50-over format, and the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022. Shaw has been in the national scheme of things for a few years now.
However, selectors have been ignoring Prithvi Shaw at the moment as the explosive opener wasn’t picked for India’s squad against South Africa despite fielding a second-string squad.
