Massive blow for CSK as Faf du Plessis suffers groin injury in CPL

Top cricketing stars are quite often involved in playing T20 leagues all across the world. At the moment, the fans are keenly following the Caribbean sporting extravaganza. The 2021 edition of the CPL will come to a close on September 15, with the final scheduled at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts.

Players who will take part in the second phase of the IPL are currently busy playing the CPL. The second phase of the IPL will be held in the UAE from September 19 onwards. In what comes as shocking news to Chennai Super Kings, Faf du Plessis suffered a groin injury in the Caribbean Premier League.

St Lucia Kings captain picked up a groin injury before the team’s clash against Barbados Royals in the 28th match on Sunday. Meanwhile, the seriousness of his injury is not yet known. In Faf’s absence, Andre Fletcher skippered the team in the match against Barbados Royals.

Big blow for Chennai Super Kings and St Lucia Kings

Faf du Plessis who was in the scintillating form before the injury thumped an imperious unbeaten hundred. Taking his injury into account, St Lucia Kings’ hopes of making it to the semi-finals have become bleak. St Lucia Kings’ interim captain Fletcher failed to lead the team well and they lost the game against Barbados by 8 wickets.

Now, St Lucia Kings will expect Guyana Amazon Warriors to prevail over Jamaica Tallawahs in a bid to make it to the semi-finals. In addition, the former Proteas’ captain’s injury raised further doubts about his participation in the second phase of the IPL 2021 in the UAE.

It remains to be seen whether or not Faf du Plessis will play for CSK in the UAE. Currently, CSK are second on the points table. The flamboyant cricketer has been in scintillating form this season. He has aggregated as many as 320 runs from 7 games at an exceptional batting average of 64 and a strike rate of 145.45.

The veteran cricketer chipped in with an unbeaten 95* against Kolkata Knight Riders this season. CSK team management would hope that their talisman batsman would recover in time to support the yellow brigade soon. CSK will lock horns with defending champions, Mumbai Indians on September 19.
