The political tensions are breaking the roof on the Srilankan island. The resistance against the president Gotabaya Rajapaksa is increasing in the nation with each passing day amid the economic crisis. While many former Sri Lankan cricketers were already protesting against the president, Mahela Jayawardene is the latest name on the list.

The former World-cup winning skipper and his teammate Sanath Jayasuriya are on the streets protesting against the president and demanding his resignation over the nation’s economic downfall.

Now Mahela Jayawardene has also joined the bandwagon as the classy right-handed batter criticized Sri Lankan police for opening fire on the protestors in which some of the protesters lost their lives.

One of the famous Sri Lankan journalists broke the news on Twitter and posted – “Sri Lanka Police confirm open firing at protesters in Rambukkana killing at least one and injuring 10. Police say protesters attempted to set fire to a fuel bowser #SriLankaCrisis”.

To which Mahela Jayawardene replied, “If the people were violent and damaging public property they can be arrested but no excuse to shoot at them? Is this democracy? Is this law of the land? Who ever responsible for this must be bought to justice… SL police shame on you…????????”.

Mahela Jayawardene schools a Twitter troll in style

Questioning the legendary cricketer’s intention in the political crises, a Twitter user targetted Jayawardene.

The troll wrote, “Sudden growth of balls ???? #srilanka #lka #GoHomeGota #GoHomeGota2022 #GoHomeRajapaksas #EconomicCrisisLK #SriLankaCrisis #gotafail #gtfo #Dictator #WakeUpSriLanka #PowerToThePeople #boycottDerana”.

However, Mahela Jayawardena was in no mood to stay politically correct and gave the troll a befitting reply saying, “I had balls to fight the system when you were in your fathers … so don’t worry about mine. Stay focus ????”.

Mahela Jayawardene is currently present in India and working with the Mumbai Indians‘ side in the IPL 2022.
