Kevin Pietersen reserves the highest respect for Heinrich Klaasen by calling him the best T20I batter

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen heaped praise on Heinrich Klaasen by calling him the best T20I batsman. The cricket expert took to his official X handle (previously known as Twitter) to reserve the highest respect for the South African wicketkeeper-batsman.

Kevin Pietersen’s tweet comes after when the South African showcased his batting masterclass in the ongoing SA20 2024 tournament. Playing for Durban Super Giants in South Africa’s premier T20 competition, Klaasen stole the spotlight with the bat in the second qualifier against Joburg Super Kings.

The right-handed batsman initially played a sedate innings where he assessed the conditions in the first place, scoring 15 off 13 balls. However, once he was set, he switched gears when it mattered the most where he accelerated the scoreboard by chipping in with runs at a rate of knots.

Pietersen took to his social media handle and began with four emojis of faces with tears of joy before stating that there isn’t a better batsman in the shortest format in the world and labelled him as the Boss. “????????????????. There isn’t a better batter in T20 cricket in the world! Klaasen is the BOSS!”

The 32-year-old played an instrumental role in adding flesh to the team’s total. He scored 74 off 30 deliveries with a staggering strike rate of 246.67. The Pretoria-born constructed his innings with the help of 7 sixes and 3 fours. Moreover, his innings came at a time when the team was at 95 for the loss of 4 wickets.

Notably, Klaasen and Wiaan Mulder steadied the ship by stitching together a 101-run stand for the fifth wicket. The huge liaison turned things around for Durban Super Giants. Wiaan Mulder remained unbeaten on 50 off 23 balls including 3 fours and as many sixes. Durban Super Giants ended up at 211/6 in their quota of 20 overs.

On the other hand, Joburg Super Kings lost the plot in the run-chase as they were bowled out for 142. Durban Super Giants won the game by 69 runs. Heinrich Klaasen was adjudged the Player of the Match for his scintillating batting display. The Super Giants will take on Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the showdown on February 10, Saturday at Newlands, Cape Town.
