IPL 2023: Underperforming XI of the season
These players failed to live up to the expectations.
Bowlers: Rahul Chahar, Jofra Archer and Avesh Khan
Punjab Kings spinner Rahul Chahar had an ordinary 2023 Indian Premier League season. He is one of the best spinners in Indian cricket but wasn’t able to make the best of the opportunities this season. In fourteen matches, he managed just eight wickets at an average of 48.12. He had a decent economy rate of 7.75, but couldn’t take many wickets.
Another bowler, who struggled this season was Jofra Archer. The Mumbai Indians pacer missed the last season due to an injury. The franchise hoped that he would pair with Jasprit Bumrah to rattle the batters in the tournament. However, Bumrah’s injury and Archer’s poor form proved to be one of the major downsides for the franchise.
In five matches, he took just two wickets, at an economy rate of 9.50. Lucknow Super Kings pacer Avesh Khan too had a similar season. Avesh Khan was expected to lead the pace bowling unit of the Lucknow Super Giants. However, it turned out to be a very poor season for the pacer. In nine matches, he took only eight wickets at an average of 35.37, and an economy rate of 9.75.
