When you are chasing a modest total, but the team has stuttered a bit, you expect your most expensive player to take more responsibility. However, such is not the case with Punjab Kings’ all-rounder Liam Livingstone.

The Englishman doesn’t care about the match situation or playing conditions; he just knows one way of playing. Liam Livingstone loves to blast the bowlers all around the part. Unfortunately, while it works for him most of the time, he pays a hefty price by sometimes losing his wicket. Or do we rather say his team pays the heavy price?

On Friday, Punjab Kings paid a heavy price by losing the game after Liam Livingstone played an irresponsible shot to get out. The Kings from the north were up against Lucknow Super Giants in the 42nd match of the Indian Premier League 2022.

Batting first, KL Rahul’s lads posted a modest total of 153/8 in 20 overs. Punjab Kings began the chase strongly but the opposition pushed them back with three quick wickets. However, with Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone taking charge in the middle, the Kings were confident about their chances.

Liam Livingstone tried to play a fancy scoop shot, lost his wicket instead

Punjab Kings were 88/3 after 12 overs and they needed 66 runs in 8 overs to seal the victory. Two Englishmen, Jonny Bairstow and Livingstone were batting in the middle and the Mohali-based franchise had better chances to win the game.

However, on the first delivery of the 13th over, Liam Livingstone tried to play a scoop shot off Mohsin Khan’s slower ball. The wicket triggered a collapse for Punjab Kings and they could only manage 133/8, in the end, to lose the game by 20 runs.
