Punjab Kings ruined Mumbai Indians’ night after winning the match 23rd of the IPL 2022 by 12 runs. Then, however, a beautiful off-the-field moment featuring two cricketing legends, Sachin Tendulkar and Jonty Rhodes, stole the limelight.

Both sides’ players and support staff were shaking hands after the match when Jonty Rhodes surprised Sachin Tendulkar and everyone present around.

Currently, Sachin Tendulkar is serving as the mentor of Mumbai Indians. Rhodes also used to be associated with Mumbai Indians, but now he is serving as the fielding coach of Punjab Kings.

During the post-match formalities, members of both teams shook hands with each other and exchanged pleasantries. First, Sachin Tendulkar had a few words with Punjab’s coach Anil Kumble and then it was Jonty’s turn. However, instead of shaking Sachin’s hand, the South African great tried to touch his feet. Sachin Tendulkar immediately stopped Jonty Rhodes, and the duo hugged it out while exchanging smiles.

Coming back to the contest, Mumbai Indians have to endure another loss this season. Their skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited Punjab Kings to have a go with the bat. Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan made the most of the wayward bowling from the Blues and provided their side with a rock-solid start. Vital cameos from Jitesh Sharma and Shahrukh Khan ensured Punjab Kings post a stiff target of 198/5.

In reply, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan once again failed to enforce themselves on a game. However, the young Tilak Verma and teenage sensation Dewald Brevis kept the five-time champions in the chase with enterprising batting performances.

Mumbai Indians lower-middle order once again failed to stick around Suryakumar Yadav as they fell short of the total by 12 runs. Everything is looking downhill for Mumbai Indians from here as they must win 8 of the remaining 9 matches to qualify for the playoffs.
