IND vs SL 2023: Deepak Hooda abuses the umpire during T20I opener against Sri Lanka

Indian cricketer Deepak Hooda stamped his authority by letting his bat do the talking against Sri Lankan bowlers in the first T20I at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. While the top-order batters succumbed to the Sri Lankan bowlers’ constant resistance, Deepak Hooda was the one who confidently confronted the seamers and spinners.

The right-handed batsman scored a quickfire 41 off just 23 balls (1 four, 4 sixes) at an impressive strike rate of 178.26. His blistering knock helped Team India post a pretty decent total of 162/5 in 20 overs. Axar Patel also supported him well as the duo added 68 runs for the sixth wicket.

In response, Sri Lanka showcased their prowess in the run-chase as they gave the Indians a tough fight. The Indian bowlers literally gave it their all in keeping the opposition batters in check but still, they kept fighting in the run-chase. However, in the end, Axar Patel helped Team India defend the target in the last over.

Deepak Hooda smashed 41 off just 23 balls

Usually, in the game of cricket, batters or bowlers tend to lose their cool during the passage of play. At times, they even cross their limits and abuse the on-field umpires. Deepak Hooda made headlines after he was caught abusing the umpire during the 18th over of India’s innings.

The right-handed batter left Kasun Rajitha’s ball in the hope that he would get wide from umpire KN Ananthapadmanabhan. However, the official thought otherwise and decided not to signal it as wide since Deepak Hooda took a step slightly across the outside off.

That was when Hooda lost his calm at the umpire’s decision. He was caught on the stump mic uttering a swear word directed at the umpire. He was caught on the stump mic saying ‘behen ke l***’. In fact, he even had a quarrel with the umpire on the very next ball. The video clip of the same has gone viral on the internet.
