IND vs ENG 2024: “Yashasvi Jaiswal will establish himself after this series” – Sunil Gavaskar

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has backed young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal to establish himself in the Indian Test Team by performing exceptionally well in the five-match Test series against England, which will commence on January 25.

Gavaskar believes that the left-handed batter will take complete advantage of playing on home soil. Yashasvi has featured in four Test matches so far, scoring 316 runs including a century and a fifty.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal will easily settle in home conditions. He’s also a left-hander. I think he’ll establish himself completely in the Indian Test team after this series,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports.

Shreyas Iyer batted brilliantly on Indian pitches: Sunil Gavaskar

The absence of the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane has opened slots for youngsters to grab. Shreyas Iyer is likely to bat at No. 5 for the Men in Blue in the Test series against the Lions.

Sunil Gavaskar is hoping Iyer to bat aggressively just like he did in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The right-handed batter had scored two hundred and three half-centuries in the mega-event.

“In the World Cup, Shreyas Iyer batted brilliantly in Indian pitches, so I’m hoping he’ll play similarly at No.5 in the Test series. He batted aggressively, was quite watchful at the start and then his stroke-making after reading the pitch was a delight to watch. I hope he’ll replicate that,” Gavaskar added.

The first test match will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The pitch is expected to be a rank turner and the hosts will prefer to play with three spinners and two pacers.
