‘I hope they can go all the way’ – Nathan Lyon picks two finalists of 2023 World Cup

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has predicted two finalists for the 2023 World Cup. As we move into the business end of the league stage, the competition is getting heated up between all the teams.

Lyon believes it will come down to Australia vs India in the final of the marquee event. He said that the Baggy Greens have a good track record and can emerge as victorious if they put a good total on the d-day.

“I honestly believe it will be an Australia v India final. India also has the pressure of the whole nation who are expecting them to win and their fans are so passionate. In finals, Australia has the runs on the board so hopefully they can go all the way,” Lyon told SEN 1170 Breakfast.

However, the 35-year-old also termed South Africa a threat for the opponents. The Proteas have been performing as a beast in the tournament and their explosive batting line-up hasn’t disappointed except in the game against Netherlands.

“That being said, I think South Africa are still a dangerous team with a powerful batting lineup. You just have to look at their number three in Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen and then David Miller,” he added.

Will Australia qualify for the semi-finals?

Austalia faced India in their World Cup 2023 campaign opener, where they defeat a massive loss. Being bundled out for just 199, they succeeded in getting early wickets. But the duo of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul sailed the ship comfortably to take the Men in Blue over the line.

While India and South Africa have almost confirmed the semi-final spot, Australia still need a couple of victories in their remaining three games to book the ticket. They bounced back strongly by winning four games in a row after two blunders in the first two games.
