Gautam Gambhir keen on taking India’s Head Coach role but wants ‘selection gaurantee’

Gautam Gambhir is focusing on helping KKR lift their third IPL title.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has emerged as one of the front-runners to replace Rahul Dravid as Team India’s Head Coach post the T20 World Cup 2024 edition.

Gambhir’s impressive ongoing stint as a mentor with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the IPL 2024 has raised his stocks. On the other hand, the likes of Ricky Ponting, Stephen Fleming, and Justin Langer aren’t keen on taking up the role, which has added to the former Indian cricketer’s favour too.

However, as per Dainik Jagaran, Gambhir is ready to apply for the highly designated role only if is given a ‘selection guarantee’. The report states that he doesn’t want to be another applicant and wants a predetermined confirmation.

Though BCCI has informed that Dravid can reapply for the role, he is unwilling to do so. It has been learnt that India’s current Head coach wants to spend time with his family after being away from home for the majority of the past few years.

The last date to apply for the job is May 27 (Monday). No information about the candidates who have applied has been released yet. If Gambhir gets selected for the role, he will have to leave the KKR mentorship role.
