Gujarat Titans all-rounder Rahul Tewatia posted a cryptic tweet after the national selectors announced the Indian squad for the Ireland tour. Since the conclusion of the IPL 2022, the selectors are trying to reward the young performers in the T20I format by giving them a chance for the national side. First, they picked Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh for the South Africa series, now they have selected Rahul Tripathi for the Ireland tour. However, another Rahul failed to find his name on the team sheet.

Rahul Tewatia remained one of the key performers for Gujarat Titans throughout the tournament and played a vital role in the title triumph. However, the selectors were not impressed enough by the spin-bowling all-rounder to pick him for the Ireland assignment.

The tweet has confirmed that the 29-year-old was expecting to receive his maiden national call-up.

The squad is filled with the rookies mostly as the seniors will play the Test against England only two days after the Ireland T20Is. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya has been given the responsibility to lead the squad and the senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been picked as his deputy.

Suryakumar Yadav has returned to the Indian team after recovering from injury and Sanju Samson has also been given another chance to prove his talent. The only new name is the Indian team is Rahul Tripathi.

For those who don’t know, Rahul Tewatia played the role of a finisher for Gujarat Titans perfectly in the recently-concluded edition of the IPL. He won a couple of crunch games for them as well. In IPL 2022, Tewatia scored 217 runs in 12 innings at an average of 31 and a strike rate of over 147. Only if Rahul Tewatia had bowled more during the IPL 2022, he could have made a strong case for his selection.
