“Bye-Bye Asia Cup” – Fans rip apart Men in Blue after losing to Sri Lanka
The nightmare came true for the Indian fans as Men in Blue crashed out of the Asia Cup 2022 after losing their Super 4 game to Sri Lanka on Wednesday. The defending champions faced their 2nd consecutive defeat in the Super 4 as they lost their previous game to Pakistan. India were up against Sri Lanka in their 2nd game of the Super 4 stage at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. It was a do-or-die game for the Indian team as they were coming to this fixture after losing their last game to the noisy neighbours Pakistan.
Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka won the vital toss and invited Rohit Sharma & co. to bat first. The Men in Blue had a terrible start as they lost KL Rahul early in the innings post an unlucky LBW decision. Meanwhile, former skipper Virat Kohli also followed him after getting bowled while playing an ugly hoick across the line. The skipper Rohit Sharma alongside Suryakumar Yadav stitched a vital partnership of 97 runs for the fourth wicket while attacking the Sri Lankan bowlers.
The Hitman smashed 72 runs off 41 deliveries, including four maximums before getting out. However, the Indian middle-order could not capitalize on the platform laid by their skipper and could only manage 173/8 in 20 overs.
Sri Lanka completes the chase to stun India
Chasing the total, the Island nation was off to a perfect start. Openers Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka added 97 runs off 67 deliveries for the first wicket and both openers completed their respective fifties. However, the Indian bowlers pulled the game back once with four quick wickets in the middle.
But it wasn’t their night as vital cameos from Bhanuka Rajapaksa and the skipper Dasun Shanaka completed the chase without any further hiccups to complete a historic 6-wickets victory over India.
