IPL 2022: BCCI decides the venues for the playoffs and the final
In the latest development, the BCCI has finalized the venues for the playoffs and the final of the IPL 2022.
The league stage of the 15th edition of the mega-event is currently underway and has already entered into the 2nd half. There are 70 matches scheduled during the league stage in the IPL 2022, while 36 matches were concluded by the end of the 23rd April, Saturday.
Two new teams were added to the roster this season and ten teams have been fighting it out for a place in the playoffs. The competition is getting intense with each passing game, as only Mumbai Indians have been crashed out of the playoffs race so far; the other nine teams are still battling to seal a berth in the playoffs of the IPL 2022.
While no team has sealed its place in the playoffs yet, the BCCI has finalized the venues for the playoffs.
Kolkata and Ahmedabad to host the playoffs in the IPL 2022
The BCCI has revealed Kolkata and Ahmedabad as the two cities that will host the playoff games. Kolkata will host Qualifier 1 and Eliminator on 24th and 26th May, respectively. Meanwhile, Ahmedabad will host the 2nd qualifier and the final on 27th and 29th May, respectively.
“As far as the men’s IPL knock-out stage matches are concerned, it would be held in Kolkata and Ahmedabad, with hundred percent attendance allowed for the matches to be played after the league staged finishes on May 22,” said BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.
Playoffs matches to be played at 100% capacity
The BCCI also announced that the playoffs games and the final will be played with a 100% crowd across all venues. Notably, only 50% crowd is allowed during the league stage games in Mumbai.
Women’s Challengers to be played in May
Alongside the IPL venues, the BCCI also announced the dates of the Women’s Challengers Trophy. The three-team tournament will be played in Lucknow from 24th May to 28th May.
“The Women’s Challenger series will be held between May 24-28 at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium,” revealed the former Indian skipper.
