Marlon Samuels charged by ICC for violating Anti-Corruption Code
Marlon Samuels was a vital part of West Indies' 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cup winning teams.
Marlon Samuels was a significant player for West Indies during his heydays. He played 71 Tests, 207 ODIs and 67 T20Is in his international career. The former West Indies all-rounder piled up as many as 11,134 runs to his name. Apart from his batting exploits, he has done quite well with the ball as well.
He has accounted for 152 dismissals. Samuels starred in ICC T20 World Cup finals (2012 and 2016). He ended up as the top run-scorer in both finals. Rightly so, he was named the Man of the Match on both occasions. The star retired from the international circuit in November 2020.
Former West Indies cricketer made the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Marlon Samuels has been charged by the apex cricket body for violating the anti-corruption code. Samuels, who is part of the 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cup-winning teams, has been charged by ICC with four corruption offences.
The International Cricket Council confirmed the news via press release on Wednesday. The charges relate to alleged violations that happened during the T10 League in the United Arab Emirates. The ICC has always been keeping an eye on cricketers (international and domestic) so that they don’t breach the norms.
“The International Cricket Council (ICC), on behalf of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), has charged former West Indies player Marlon Samuels with breaching four counts of the ECB Anti-Corruption Code for Participants of the T10 League (the ‘Code’),” ICC mentioned in the release.

“Mr Samuels has 14 days from 21 September to respond to the charges. The ICC will not make any further comment in respect of these charges at this stage,” ICC added. Meanwhile, Cricket West Indies (CWI) responded to development. The board said that it completely supports ICC’s anti-corruption unit.
“While CWI has yet to receive detailed information relating to this ICC investigation, CWI remains firm in denouncing any such activities within the sport, and fully supports the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit in their efforts to rid the sport of all corruption,” CWI stated.
