‘Dreams do come true’ – Matheesha Pathirana opens up on getting retained by CSK for IPL 2023

Matheesha Pathirana was impressive in the two games last season.

Chennai Super Kings are one of the teams to watch out for in the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. The four-time IPL champions totally messed up the plan, strategy and gameplay in the fifteenth edition of the IPL. The yellow army could come out on top on only four occasions but were on the backfoot for the rest of 10 games.

As a result, they failed to qualify for the playoffs. They finished at the 9th position in the points table last season. It was no surprise to see CSK retaining their skipper and cricketing brain, MS Dhoni, ahead of the auction. He will lead the team for next season, in what could be his last stint in the Indian Premier League.

MS Dhoni and Co will certainly be gunning for the fifth title in a bid to equal Mumbai Indians’ overall tally of five titles. While retaining some top players in their arsenal, they had to take some bold calls as well. They released players including the likes of DJ Bravo, Robin Uthappa, Adam Milne, Hari Nishaanth, Chris Jordan, Bhagath Varma, KM Asif and Narayan Jagadeesan.

CSK roped in the Sri Lankan international for his base price of INR 20 lakh. The 19-year-old youngster has played two games for the franchise last season wherein he bagged two wickets to his name.

Chennai Super Kings decided to retain Sri Lankan international Matheesha Pathirana ahead of the IPL 2023 mega auction.
