Finally, Kolkata Knight Riders succeeded in putting a break to their losing streak after defeating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets on Monday. Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh were the stars of the show for the Men in Purple as the duo stitched an unbeaten 66 runs partnership off 38 deliveries to steer their team home.
Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Shreyas Iyer invited Rajasthan Royals to bat first after winning the toss. The Men in Pink struggled for momentum throughout their innings. The skipper Sanju Samson top-scored for them with 54 runs off 49 deliveries but he too struggled to get off the blocks.
Left-handed Shimron Hetmyer played a whirlwind cameo of unbeaten 27 runs off 13 deliveries in the death to take Rajasthan Royals to a fighting score of 152/5 in 20 overs.
Chasing the total, Kolkata Knight Riders lost their openers early once again. However, Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana stitched a vital partnership for the 3rd wicket to keep them in the hunt. But the Kolkata-based franchise was in trouble once Shreyas Iyer got out.
Walked in Rinku Singh at number five to play a brilliant knock of unbeaten 42 runs off 23 deliveries to win the game for his side. Meanwhile, Nitish Rana remained unbeaten for 48 runs off 37 deliveries. The 24-year-old Rinku has deservingly been adjudged the player of the match award for his fast-paced innings.
