Gautam Gambhir's qualities will surely turn the Indian players into serial winners.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might soon officially announce Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. As per Cricbuzz, a high-profile owner of an IPL franchise has confirmed that Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as India’s Head Coach is a done deal.
The reports state that Gambhir has expressed his interest to succeed Rahul Dravid as India’s head coach. Rahul Dravid’s tenure as chief coach comes to an end post the T20 World Cup 2024. In this article, let’s now take a look at the three reasons why appointing Gambhir as India’s head coach is the right call.
1. Experience and Winning mentality
Gautam Gambhir has had an illustrious career in international cricket. He certainly knows the tricks and trades of playing across formats (Tests, ODIs and T20Is). On top of that, he has participated in many high-stake tournaments such as World Cups. As a result, his on-field experience can offer valuable insights and strategies to the existing players of the Indian cricket team.
Gambhir has won two ICC titles (T20 World Cup 2007 & ODI World Cup 2011) as a player. What set him apart from other players is that he played a crucial part in India’s victories in both finals. Having him in the team could do a world of good as he not only brings in a wealth of experience but will also be able to transmit a winning mentality into his players.
