3 players who can replace Jasprit Bumrah in India’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad

Jasprit Bumrah miss is a big blow to the Men in Blue.

In a terrible piece of news, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. It is a body-blow for Men in Blue as the right-arm pacer is arguably the best death bowler on the planet. It was the 2nd major setback for Rohit Sharma & Co. as star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the mega-event with an injury. While India managed to bring in a like-for-like replacement for Jadeja in Axar Patel, it would be next to impossible for India to replace Jasprit Bumrah.

The right-arm earlier missed the Asia Cup courtesy of a back injury. He made his comeback in the national set-up through the recently-concluded T20I series against Australia. However, Bumrah once again missed the opening T20I against South Africa due to back pain. Now, several reports suggest that India’s pace-spearhead has been ruled out of the multi-nation T20 carnival in Australia.

In this post, we will take a look at three players who could replace Jasprit Bumrah in India’s T20 World Cup squad.

3. Mohammad Siraj

As per reports, Mohammad Siraj is set to replace Jasprit Bumrah in India’s squad for the remaining two T20Is against South Africa. The right-arm pacer has improved a lot in white-ball cricket in the last couple of seasons. Furthermore, he is coming off a highly-successful county season. If Mohammad Siraj does get a chance against South Africa, he could nail down his spot with a couple of solid performances. Furthermore, he already has experience of playing in Australia and that could work in his favour.

2. Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar is already a part of the reserve players for the T20 World Cup. Hence, he will be among the top options to replace Jasprit Bumrah in India’s T20 World Cup squad. While Deepak has a very different skill set than Bumrah, he is still pretty lethal and accurate. Chahar is a swing bowler and certainly one of the best in the business with the new ball. His quality was on full display in the first game against South Africa and if he can keep up his form, there is a high chance that Deepak Chahar could make it to India’s T20 World Cup squad.

1. Mohammed Shami

If there is a bowler who is the most likely to replace Jasprit Bumrah in India’s T20 World Cup squad, he is none other than Mohammed Shami. The right-handed pacer has been the spearhead of the Indian bowling attack alongside Jasprit Bumrah in Tests and ODIs for a while now. Furthermore, he was also in India’s T20 World Cup squad in 2021. However, he has been sidelined from the national T20I set-up for a year now. Despite all that, Mohammed Shami is a reserve player for India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 and Men in Blue will need his experience in such a major event in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. Furthermore, Mohammed Shami is a genuine wicket-taker and can bowl well with the new ball and at the death as well.
