[WATCH] Smriti Mandhana gets emotional after heartbreaking loss against DC Women in WPL 2024

RCB Women are third on the WPL 2024 points table with an NRR of +0.027.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Women Smriti Mandhana was left heartbroken and shattered after the team’s narrow defeat to Delhi Capitals Women in WPL 2024. RCB Women almost pulled off the ropes in the run-chase, only to fall short by a whisker of 1 run.

Following the gut-wrenching loss, the teary-eyed RCB Women skipper was seen consoling the team’s top performer Richa Ghosh. The wicketkeeper-batswoman was the last hope for RCB-W as she gave everything in the run-chase.

She chipped in with 51 off 29 balls with the help of 4 fours and 3 sixes. Unfortunately, she was run out by the combined efforts of Shafali Verma and Jess Jonassen in the last ball of the over. Delhi Capitals Women pulled off a spine-chilling win at Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Batting first, DC Women posted a competitive total of 181/5 in their designated quota of 20 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues top-scored with 58 off 36 balls, laced with 8 fours and a six. On the contrary, Shreyanka Patil was the pick of the bowlers for RCB-W as she took 4/26.

As far as the run-chase is concerned, RCB-W sought assistance from Shafali Varma (51) and Ellyse Perry (49). However, in the end, DC-W had the last laugh in the battle. This narrow defeat surely dented RCB Women’s playoffs hopes but they are not knocked out yet.

RCB Women Qualification Scenario for WPL 2024

Case 1:

RCB Women will have to beat Mumbai Indians Women on March 12 and will have to expect another result to go in their favor. They will have to expect Gujarat Giants to beat UP Warriorz (UPW) on March 11. However, if UPW defeats the Giants and RCB loses to MI, then RCB will be knocked out of WPL 2024.

Case 2:

If Smriti Mandhana and Co beat Mumbai Indians Women and if UP Warriorz (UPW) beat Gujarat Giants (GT), the team with a better Net Run Rate will qualify for the playoffs. Likewise, if RCB Women lose to MI Women and if UP Women lose to GT, the team with a better NRR will advance.
