In the ongoing Test between England and New Zealand, the Kiwi batter Henry Nicholls gets dismissed in a bizarre manner that sparked a controversy about cricket laws on social media. It was one of the rarely seen moments on the cricket field and one of the unluckiest manners to get out. However, the MCC has clarified that the dismissal was well within the laws of the game.
On Thursday, England met New Zealand in the 3rd and the final game of the Test series at the Headingley, Leeds. England came to this game with an unassailable lead of 2-0 after winning the first two Tests. Meanwhile, the Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bat first.
The visitors had a terrible start as they lost the opener, Tom Latham, in the very first over as the veteran pacer Stuart Broad clinched the wicket. The English pacers were on fire as they soon reduced the Kiwis to 62/3 and Henry Nicholls walked out to bat.
Once Devon Conway also returned to the dugout, Nicholls alongside Daryl Mitchell tried to steady the sinking Kiwi ship. The duo added vital 40 runs for the 5th wicket before the left-handed southpaw had to return following a heartbreaking dismissal.
Henry Nicholls finds the unluckiest manner to get dismissed
On the 2nd delivery of the 56th over, Nicholls smashed the left-arm spinner Jack Leach straight down the ground. He didn’t try to keep the ball down as he got a lot of power behind the shot.
On most days, the ball would have travelled to the boundary; but for the unlucky Henry Nicholls, it ricocheted off Daryl Mitchell’s bat at the non-striker’s end to Alex Lees at the mid-off.

Law 33.2.2.3 states it will be out if a fielder catches the ball after it has touched the wicket, an umpire, another fielder, a runner or the other batter.

Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell once again joined the forces to pull the Blackcaps out of the hole with an unbeaten partnership of 102 runs for the 6th wicket. At the stumps on day one, the Kiwis are 225/5 as Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell are unbeaten on 78 runs and 45 runs, respectively.
