Virat Kohl’s love affair with the Chinnaswamy crowd continued on day 1 of the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka on Saturday (March 12). Incidentally, Kohli is a heartthrob in Bengaluru, having represented in the IPL since the inaugural edition in 2008.
Loved flooded since the first ball of the match as the crowd chanted Kohli’s name as India won the toss and came down to bat first. It continued even when he came down to bat and later when Kohli was fielding in the final session of the day’s play.
As chants of “Kohli, Kohli” continued to buzz around the stadium, Virat Kohli himself turned around and flashed a heart sign towards the galleries. In another instance, when the crowd started chanting for RCB, the former captain pulled up his India shirt to reveal red coloured apparel below it.

However, Virat Kohli didn’t have a great outing with the bat as he managed only 23 runs in the first innings before he was trapped by Dhananjaya de Silva. However, Kohli was unlucky as the ball didn’t jump as expected and crashed into Kohli’s legs. The 33-year-old cricketer was in shock and stood his ground before making the long walk back to the dressing room.
“There is lack of confidence” – Wasim Jaffer on Virat Kohli’s form
Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer feels that Kohli does not have any flaws in his technique, however, he is not having the adequate confidence required to outperform the bowlers.
Speaking on ESPNCricinfo, he said:
“There is nothing like that (on whether there are flaws in Kohli’s technique). He doesn’t have enough runs under his belt and there is a lack of confidence. The kind of runs that we expect from Kohli is not seen. Once he gets to that hundred and he finds form, I am quite sure that we will get to see the old Virat Kohli.”
Virat Kohli, meanwhile, will hope to make up with a big knock in the 2nd innings of the Test match.
