Washington Sundar is one of the brightest prospects of the Indian national cricket team. The young all-rounder has time and again offered his services in the form of three dimensions. Be it batting, bowling and fielding, he has ticked all the boxes whenever he has stepped out on the field.

The 22-year-old Chennai-born cricketer has played 4 Tests, 4 ODIs and 31 T20Is for Team India. He has scored 265, 57 and 47 runs in the respective formats. Washington Sundar has slammed three half-centuries in the purest form of the game.

He has taken 6 wickets in Tests, 5 wickets in ODIs and 25 wickets in T20Is. The Sunrisers Hyderabad player has played 51 games in the IPL where he scored 318 runs at a strike-rate of 120.5. He has taken 33 wickets to his name in the cash-rich IPL.

Meanwhile, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has reserved the highest respect for Washington Sundar. The former Indian cricketer said Washington is going to be one of India’s leading all-rounders.

He was initially part of the Indian Test squad last year. Nevertheless, a finger injury ruled him out of the five-match series against England. The Tamil Nadu bowling all-rounder made his Test debut in India’s historic Test win against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane.

Sundar played only 3 more matches after his debut as he skipped four Tests against England. Moreover, he didn’t play in the home Tests against New Zealand and Sri Lanka. He made a comeback for Team India in the three-match ODI series against West Indies in February. He picked up four wickets while also scoring 57 runs with the bat in two innings.

“He is going to be one of India’s leading all-rounders. He is the future. You have [Ravindra] Jadeja today. Three years down the line, if Jadeja is still fit, he will play. There is Axar [Patel] around. But this guy is your premier all-rounder across all three formats of the game. Hear what I am saying. Three formats of the game,” Ravi Shastri told ESPNCricinfo.

“This guy is a serious cricketer. He is still very young, he has got to understand his own game, how good a player he is. Shot selection will come, especially for the white-ball format. [If he] works on his fitness so that he is not injury-prone, India have got a serious cricketer in him. Across all formats of the game,” he added in a statement.
