Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne hogged the limelight with a weird dismissal on day 1 of the final Ashes Test against Australia in Hobart.

Asked to bat first, Australia were down to 12/3 in quick succession with both openers and Steve Smith back in the hut. But Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head revived Australia’s innings with a 71-run stand for the fourth wicket before Labuschagne was dismissed in a weird fashion.

While, batting at 44, Labuschagne was cleaned off his leg by Stuart Broad. He shuffled way too much even before the ball came out of Broad’s hand, but then the spikes slipped and Marnus Labuschagne fell. It was a full middle-stump ball and once the batter was on the ground, there was little chance of the bat making contact with the ball.

It was a comical dismissal with Steve Smith seen laughing in the dressing room. The fans also found out the funny side of the dismissal.

Here are some of the reactions:

Australia stumble despite Travis Head century

After an early collapse, Labuschagne and Travis Head launched a counter-attacking reviving Australia. England lost the plot and bowled too full with Mark Wood and Chris Woakes being taken for plenty. Broad was brought back to restore sanity and he dismissed Labuschagne just before dinner. But the runs kept flowing after the first session as Green and Head put on a 121-run stand for the fifth wicket.

Head’s superlative run with the bat continued, scoring another century – fourth overall and second in the series. However, he got out one ball after reaching the landmark. But Cameron Green toiled hard to keep the scoreboard ticking before Mark Wood’s ploy to go round the wicket paid dividends.

England had their tail up but continuous drizzle forced an abrupt end to the day’s play with with Australia reeling at 241/6.
