Kolkata Knight Riders squared off against Mumbai Indians in the 14th match of the IPL 2022 on Wednesday night. The Knight Riders won the toss and invited the Blues to have a go with the bat first. Both sides made two changes apiece as Pat Cummins and Rasikh Salam played for the KKR, Suryakumar Yadav and Dewald Brevis found their name on Mumbai Indians’ team sheet.

Batting first, Mumbai had a tough start once again as the skipper Rohit Sharma got out for paltry three runs. Moreover, Ishan Kishan also failed to get going and got out of Pat Cummins’ bowling.

However, SKY and young Tilak Verma managed to hold their ground in the middle and stitched a crucial 83 runs partnership for the 4th wicket to bring Mumbai Indians back to the game. West Indies’ all-rounder smashed his way to unbeaten 22 runs off 5 deliveries to conclude the innings on a high as the five-time champions ended with a fighting total of 161/4 in 20 overs.

The Knight Riders had a tough start to the chase as they lost two wickets in the powerplay but Venkatesh Iyer kept them afloat. While the required run rate was never an issue for the two-time champions, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Mumbai Indians kept themselves in the hunt after removing Andre Russell in the 14th over. Entered the Aussie test skipper Pat Cummins with different ideas in mind. The pacer demolished the opposition to a 14-ball fifty, including six 6s and four boundaries. It was absolute carnage from Cummins as KKR won the game by 5 wickets with four overs remaining.

Twitter exploded after Pat Cummins’ explosion

Mumbai Indians had no answers to Pat Cummins’s assault as the pace-bowling all-rounder blasted his way to the fastest-ever IPL fifty. Twitter exploded as Mumbai Indians tasted a third consecutive defeat.
