T20 World Cup 2024: 3 positive takeaways from India’s victory against Ireland
Hardik Pandya drew plaudits for his masterful bowling spell against Ireland.
Team India led by Rohit Sharma started their T20 World Cup venture with an emphatic win over Ireland at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Indian bowlers did the honours by keeping the Ireland batters as they restricted the opposition to 96 (all out) in 16 overs.
In response, the Men in Blue aced the run-chase in 12.2 overs and won the game by 8 wickets. Jasprit Bumrah continued his rich vein of form by registering 2/6 in 3 overs. Rightly so, he was adjudged the Man of the Match. Let’s take a look at the three major positive takeaways from India’s win over Ireland.
1. Rohit Sharma returns to form
Indian captain Rohit Sharma gave his fans a perfect tonic by returning back to his usual form. The swashbuckling opener led India’s batting attack by example by top-scoring with 52 off 37 balls. He constructed his innings with the help of 4 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 140.54.
In the recently-concluded IPL, he went through ups and downs where he remained inconsistent. However, it was rather refreshing to see him go about his business against Ireland. In the process, he went past 4,000 runs in T20Is, hit 600 sixes in international cricket and also went past 1000 runs in T20 World Cups.
