Sourav Ganguly, a former Indian cricketer and captain, was born on July 8, 1972, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He hails from a family with a cricketing background, being the son of Chandidas and Nirupa Ganguly, and his elder brother, Snehasish Ganguly, was also a former cricketer. Ganguly’s cricket journey commenced in 1989 when he began representing West Bengal in the Ranji Trophy.
In 1992, he made his debut in international cricket for India and swiftly proved himself as a skilled batsman. Four years later, in 1996, he was appointed as the captain of the Indian cricket team, a position he held until 2005. During his captaincy tenure, Ganguly led India to several significant victories, notably the historic win in the 2002 NatWest Series in England.
Following his retirement from playing cricket in 2008, Ganguly shifted his focus to administrative roles in the sport. He took on the role of President of the Cricket Association of Bengal and later assumed the prestigious position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2019. In recognition of his contributions to the sport and his achievements, he was honored with the Padma Shri in 2004, one of India’s highest civilian awards.

Dona Ganguly, also known as Dona Roy, is the spouse of Sourav Ganguly. Professionally, she is an Indian Bengali Odissi Dancer. Coming from a well-to-do business family in Kolkata, Dona was born on 22nd August 1972 and was raised as the only child of her parents, Sanjeev Roy and Swapna Roy.
Her journey as a dancer began at the tender age of three, and over time, her passion for dancing evolved into a deep devotion. Dona attended Loreto Convent School before moving to Odisha, where she honed her dancing skills under the tutelage of Guru Giridhari Nayek. Performing classical dance filled her with a sense of enchantment and joy.
However, a pivotal moment in her life arrived when she started receiving guidance from KELUCHARAN MOHAPATRA. Mohapatra’s mentoring and collaboration with her on numerous occasions, playing the Pakhavaj, revealed her true talent and potential.
