Sourav Ganguly picks India’s openers for T20 World Cup 2024
Rohit Sharma will meet with the selectors soon to decide the squad.
Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has backed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to open innings for the Men in Blue in the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will be played in the West Indies and the USA, from June 2.
Ganguly believes that the two veterans are automatic picks for the mega-event. He stated that the selectors will decide the openers, but as per him, Rohit and Virat should be forming the opening pair.
“Both Rohit Sharma and Viral Kohli will definitely go to West Indies and USA. It’s a call for selectors whom they will open with but if you ask me personally both Rohit and Virat should open for India in the T20 World Cup,” Ganguly told India Today.
The 51-year-old backed the current Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, to lead the side at the T20 extravaganza. He also highlighted the fact that Kohli is still an outstanding pick despite him playing lesser T20Is for the national side in recent years.
“Of course, Rohit should captain the team in the T20I World Cup. Virat Kohli also should be there. Virat Kohli is an outstanding player, nothing will happen (to return after 14 months),” he added.
