Sean Williams has been one of the vital players of Zimbabwe cricket history. The veteran cricketer has turned up on big occasions and has upped his game, especially in One Day Internationals. He represented the national cricket team in 14 Tests, 136 ODIs and 47 T20Is. He chipped in with 1034, 3958 and 945 runs respectively.

Recently, he announced his decision to retire from international cricket. His decision to quit international cricket rocked the cricket fraternity. Just days after his sudden retirement, Zimbabwe middle-order batsman took a sudden U-turn. He withdrew the retirement letter he sent to Zimbabwe Cricket.

It means that he will be able to represent Zimbabwe. As per a report published in the Sunday Times, Williams withdrew the retirement letter he had sent to Zimbabwe Cricket before the limited-overs series against Ireland.

The middle-order batsman added in his letter that he would retire from international cricket after the end of the three-month notice period in November. Needless to say, the 34-year-old is now keen to finish the remaining spell of his central contract that comes to a close in eight months.

I can’t see any improvement under the coach: Sean Williams

Earlier, when he announced his decision to retire ahead of the Ireland series, Sean Williams added that Rajput’s misusing of affairs was one of the reasons behind his retirement. Speaking to Star FM Zimbabwe, Williams revealed:

”I can’t see a way forward under coach [Lalchand] Rajput. The environment he has created in the team is bad. There is too much talking and backbiting which creates mistrust.”

Rajput ran through the worst spell as Zimbabwe head coach since his appointment in 2018. Under his guidance as a coach, Zimbabwe could win only 4 ODIs and 8 T20Is from 29 games in each format. Apart from Lalchand Rajput, the others members of the technical team had a disappointing stint.

The other members of the technical team include the likes of Stuart Matsikenyeri, Douglas Hondo and Shepherd Makunura. Meanwhile, Sean Williams didn’t make it to the playing XI ongoing T20I series against Ireland.

Zimbabwe and Ireland won a game each and the series is locked at 1-1. It remains to be seen if Williams makes it to the starting XI for the third T20I on September 1.
