Ricky Ponting drops his prediction for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has come up with his prediction for the forthcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy series between Team India and Australia. The BGT series opener is scheduled to go all guns blazing on November 22 at Perth.
Since 2008/09, Team India have locked horns with Australia in nine meetings. The Indians have had the upper hand over their rivals as they won seven series. On the other hand, Australia have won just two series. India have won four consecutive Test series over Australia in the last four meetings.
Australia’s last Test series win came over India in 2014/15 when they won the four-match Test series by 2-0. For the record, India won the last two editions of the BGT in the enemy’s territory, winning both series by 2-1 margins. It will be quite interesting to see how the Indians will go about their work in Australia.

Ricky Ponting reveals his prediction for BGT series
The 49-year-old reckons that Australia will come up trumps against India in the upcoming series. According to Punter, Pat Cummins will defy the odds and win the series by 3-1. The Aussies might have failed to win a Test series against India in the last two editions at home but is very much certain that Australia will turn the tide this time around.
“I’m obviously going to tip Australia to win and I’m never going to tip against Australia. There will be a draw somewhere and there will be some bad weather somewhere, so I’m going to say 3-1 to Australia,” Ricky Ponting revealed his prediction in the recent edition of the ICC Review.
Australia might not have fared well against India in the BGT series over the decade but they have inflicted a truckload of damage on India in the two ICC finals. The Aussies beat India by a huge margin of 209 runs in the WTC 2023 final before thrashing him by six wickets in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 final.
