No other state in India watches as much cricket as Maharashtra: Head of Disney Star Sanjog Gupta

The forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League will go all guns blazing from March 26 onwards. The tournament will see as many as ten teams in action. So, it will be one heck of competition this time around. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants are the two newly-inducted teams in the upcoming season of the IPL.

The last season’s finalists, CSK and KKR will lock horns with each other on March 26 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. It remains to be seen how the defending champions will kick-start their title defence this time.

In a first, Gujarati commentary will be introduced to the fans in the league. Moreover, the cash-rich IPL will be telecasted in 8 languages, which will have a wider coverage of the cricketing action in the next season.

The tournament will see as many as 12 doubleheaders. Overall, 74 games will be played in the tournament. A sum of 70 league stage fixtures will be played across four venues in Maharashtra. The venues for the 4 playoffs will be finalized later.

Maharashtra provides the largest viewership: Disney Star Head of Sports

The league stage games will be played in Wankhede Stadium, the Brabourne Stadium, the DY Patil Stadium, and the MCA Stadium in Pune. Meanwhile, Disney Star Head of Sports went on to reveal which Indian state provides the largest viewership in cricket in India. There are countless fans who watch the sport in India from across quarters.

While speaking to Indian Express, Disney Star Head of Sports, Sanjog Gupta revealed that Maharashtra provides the largest viewership in cricket among all states in the country. “No other state in India watches as much cricket as Maharashtra. According to the market and this time in IPL 74 matches will be shown in Marathi language.

“Apart from this, the Gujarat team is new, so we are doing Gujarati commentary for the first time”, said Sanjog Gupta Head (Sports) of Disney Star as quoted by the Indian Express.
