List of all hat-tricks in Indian Premier League (IPL) history

The cash rich league has witness numerous magical moments over the years.

Indian Premier League (IPL) is the most-watched T20 tournament in the globe without any second thoughts. Ever since its entry in 2008, the BCCI has hosted India’s premier T20 competition in fifteen successive editions. The cricket fraternity is gearing up for the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League, which will go all guns blazing from March 31 onwards.

Case in point, claiming a hat trick is not everyone’s cup of tea. In fact, this kind of achievement is the rarest phenomenon in the game of cricket. It is down to the bowler who needs to be spot on with his variations so much that he can ruffle the batters’ feathers. Bowling three wicket-taking deliveries ain’t that easy. However, some bowlers have braved the challenges and taken a hat-trick in the IPL.

Lakshmipathu Balaji can take pride in the fact that he is the first bowler to bag a hat-trick in the IPL. The former CSK bowler achieved the feat against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and registered his best bowling figures of 5/24. On the contrary, the likes of Amit Mishra and Makhaya Ntini were the others who bagged a hat-trick in the inaugural edition of the IPL.

In IPL 2009 season, Yuvraj Singh hogged the limelight after he bagged two hat-tricks in that season against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Deccan Chargers (now-terminated franchise). Rohit Sharma who once played for Deccan Chargers in the IPL bagged a hat-trick against Mumbai Indians in the second season of the IPL. In IPL 2010, Praveen Kumar bagged a hat-trick against Rajasthan Royals.

It was the only hat trick in that particular season. In the subsequent season, the cricket fraternity witnessed only one hat trick in the form of Amit Mishra as he achieved the feat against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). On the other hand, Ajit Chandila took a hat trick in IPL 2012 whereas Sunil Narine bagged a hat trick against the Punjab-based franchise in IPL 2013 season.
