The cash-rich Indian Premier League came to the limelight in the year 2008 and at that time, cricket was prepared to move to the next stage and that is the shortest format (20 overs). The Indian Premier League came into existence especially after India won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup 2007.

The maiden season of the IPL was so good that it attracted fans from all across the world. As many as 8 teams took part in the competition. They fought a good fight and in the end, Rajasthan Royals claimed the first trophy by beating Chennai Super Kings in the final.

Mumbai Indians are now the most successful club in the IPL with as many as five trophies. Chennai Super Kings follow next on the list of most titles as they won three honours. Kolkata Knight Riders won 2 titles while the likes of Deccan Chargers (now defunct franchise) and Sunrisers Hyderabad won a title apiece.

Now, the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League has been suspended for an indefinite time by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The sudden development comes after the coronavirus breached the IPL bubble and there was a spike in coronavirus cases inside the bubble.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is exploring the small window to conduct the rest of the tournament. As per various sources, BCCI wants to stage the tournament in September just before the T20 World Cup 2021. Meanwhile, the upcoming edition of the IPL might see 2 new teams added to the cash-rich league.

Finch is the Australian skipper as far as limited-overs format is concerned. He averages 38.45 in the truncated version of the game. His stats speak huge volumes as a ferocious batsman. Nonetheless, he was released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the IPL 2021 season.

Unfortunately, he went unsold in the IPL 2021 auction. Needless to say, the Australian stalwart has a good experience of spicing it up in the domestic T20 leagues. There are chances that he may be part of the next season. A new team in the cash-rich IPL could knock on his door.

Talking about his records as a batter in the T20 format, he has been truly sensational. He hogged the limelight recently when he edged past David Warner to become the country’s leading run-scorer in the T20I format in March 2021.
