IPL 2023: Underperforming XI of the season
These players failed to live up to the expectations.
Middle order: Mayank Agarwal, Deepak Hooda, Dinesh Karthik and Riyan Parag
Sunrisers Hyderabad signed Mayank Agarwal for a whopping INR 8.25 crores in the 2023 Indian Premier League season. The franchise hoped that the Indian batter would play a vital role in the batting order. However, Mayank had a very underperforming season. In 10 matches, he scored 270 runs at an average of 27 and a strike rate of 128.57, with one fifty.
Deepak Hooda too did not have a great season in the tournament. He failed miserably with the bat and only scored 84 runs in 12 matches, at an average of 7.64. Wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik too had a similar season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He managed just 140 runs in thirteen matches, at an average of 11.67, and a strike rate of 134.61.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals cricketer Riyan Parag once again couldn’t make much of an impact in the 2023 Indian Premier League. He played seven matches, scoring just 78 runs at an average of 13.00, and a strike rate of 118.18. The youngster was dropped from the playing XI after a few games in the season.
