IPL 2023: 3 pacers Mumbai Indians (MI) could sign to replace Jhye Richardson
The pace is out of the season due to hamstring injury.
The five-time champions Mumbai Indians have been marred with injuries ahead of the new season of the Indian Premier League. After their star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the entire season, their overseas pacer Jhye Richardson has also been ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to a recurring hamstring injury.
Jhye Richardson had a great BBL season and he was supposed to be the backup pacer for the injury-prone Jofra Archer in the MI squad. The Mumbai-based franchise signed up the Aussie quick for a sum of INR 1.5 crore. Jhye Richardson was a part of Australia’s ODI squad against India but he has now been ruled out of it, putting his participation in the IPL in jeopardy.
Mumbai Indians will now be looking for a suitable replacement for the pacer and hence, in this post, we will take a look at the top three pacers Mumbai Indians (MI) could sign to replace Jhye Richardson.
3. Tom Curran
Known as a death specialist, Tom Curran surprisingly went unsold in the auctions for the IPL 2023. The English pacer plays in the various T20 leagues across the globe and has plenty of experience in the shortest format.
Tom Curran has picked up 193 wickets in 171 T20 matches in his career at a strike rate of 17.4. He is no mug with the bat either as the Englishman has scored 1316 runs at a strike rate of over 138. Tom Curran has a great variety of slower balls alongside a good yorker.
Tom Curran has also played in 13 IPL matches for three different franchises. The 28-year-old could be a good addition to the MI squad as he has enough experience bowling in Asian conditions. The right-arm pacer currently plying his trade for Islamabad United in the PSL and the Blues could look to sign him as a replacement for Jhye Richardson.
