Meanwhile, in the latest development, India’s tour of South Africa is to be delayed by a week amid the Omicron scare as per The Indian Express. Earlier, the WHO chief confirmed that the Omicron variant was identified in 23 different countries including South Africa.
As a result, nations are taking measures to curb the spread of the new variant. As of now, it seems that the BCCI is planning to delay the senior team’s tour. The Indian national cricket team was scheduled to jet off on December 9 via a charter flight.
As per the latest sources, the plan has been put on hold. Meanwhile, the squads’ selection for the South Africa tour has also been postponed accordingly. The selection meeting was scheduled to happen after India’s first Test against New Zealand.
However, since the Indian board, BCCI is constantly keeping in contact with its South African counterpart, it has been planned to hold the selection meeting after having clarity about what lies ahead. The team is expected to play 3 Tests, 3 ODIs and 4 T20Is in South Africa.
