IND vs AUS 2023: 3 players who deserved spot in India’s squad

BCCI named the squad for Team India’s next assignment after missing out on the prestigious World Cup trophy in the final. They will lock horns with the same team they lost the final against – the mighty Australia.

The top two teams of the World Cup 2023 will play a five-match T20I series to prepare for the T20 World Cup next year. While Australia announced their squad way back, the Men in Blue made the official announcement on Monday (November 20).

The No.1 ICC-ranked T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav will be leading the side alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad as vice-captain. Senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been given rest.

Shreyas Iyer will also join the team for the last T20I as the vice-captain. Notably, big names like Yuzvendra Chahal and Sanju Samson missed out on the squad despite having good numbers to back their respective cases.

In this article, we look at three names who deserved a spot in Team India’s squad for the T20I series against Australia.

1) Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal has been unlucky whenever it comes to representing the country in the biggest events. He either gets dropped ahead of the tournament or doesn’t get enough chances to prove his worth on the big stage.

But this time it seems his international career is in jeopardy. He has been ignored for the T20I series even when the seniors aren’t present in the squad. It’s a clear indication that the management has started looking beyond him.

It’s a tricky decision considering the next mega-event is just six to seven months away. Chahal has overseas experience and is equipped enough to handle pressure on the big days. The decision to drop Chahal in the long term might backfire on the Indian side.
